The Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) National Boxing Academy (NBA), which was established here nearly two years ago, was today formally “inaugurated” by Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel.

The NBA is located on the premises of the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex here. Speaking on the occasion, Goel lauded the role being played by the Haryana Government and SAI in the promotion of sports. The minister assured the sportspersons of all possible help and support on his part.

“Haryana’s land has a unique potential to produce boxers of international level and the same has been proved time and again. State boxers like Vijender Singh, Akhil, Jitender, Rajkumar and Sumit have brought laurels to the country at the international level,” he stated.

Goel said the NBA had signed a memorandum of understanding with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, under which profile of every player would be prepared. The record about standard of living, behavior, physical and mental activities of players would be maintained, he added.
