A lawyer committed suicide in his chamber by consuming a poisonous substance here yesterday.

The deceased, identified as Ajay Puri, was a resident of Kamla Avenue on the Fatehgarh Churian road. He was upset over “harassment and blackmailing” by several persons, including two advocates.

The police found a suicide note from Puri’s chamber. On the  statement of his wife Monica Puri, eight persons, including advocates Randhir Sharma and Bhaskar, have been booked under Section 306 of the IPC.

Satpal Singh, investigating officer, said, “In the suicide note, Puri mentioned that the accused were blackmailing him. The accused were filing false cases against him, so he was ending his life.”
