Bathinda cop’s murder: Now, main accused gets clean chit

A day after the murder of Constable Gurwinder Singh, Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma gave the clean chit to main accused Daljeet Singh, the victim’s neighbour.

Gurwinder (30) was found murdered near the ‘rajbaha’ (water channel) adjoining Kotbhai yesterday.

The SSP said today that the murder was committed by Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggi of Bhokra village and Lovepal Sharma alias Lavi of Rampura.

“Jaggi is facing cases of murder and attempt to murder. He was Gurwinder’s close friend,” he said. Jaggi and Lavi were also friends.

The SSP added that the trio visited Dabwali a few days ago. On their way back, the constable thrashed Jaggi under the influence of liquor over some issue. “Jaggi decided to take revenge and asked Lavi to assist him. Lavi had a stolen 12-bore rifle and they called up the constable to come towards Goniana,” the SSP said.

As per the police, the cop was shot dead by Jaggi in the Nissan Micra driven first by Gurwinder and later by Lavi.

The SSP added, “This is an exceptional case in which the cop was not only an addict but also had criminals as his friends.”

Jaggi has been arrested and booked for murder. Daljeet is still in custody, but no case has been registered against him.
