Kullu, NOVEMBER 28

There was no impact of the bandh, which was called by the opposition to oppose the inconvenience faced by the masses due to the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes in the entire Kullu district. All shops and commercial establishments in Kullu, Manali, Bhuntar and Banjar towns of this district functioned as usual.

Beopar Mandals did not join the bandh call today. President of Kullu Beopar Mandal Rajesh Seth stated that there was no call for the bandh by the state unit or any political party. He added that all the markets remained opened and business transactions were not affected.

Most of the shopkeepers of Kullu region supported the government’s demonetisation move to curb the black money and were against the bandh. Raju, a shopkeeper in Gandhi Nagar, stated that his daily sales had not been hampered and there was no reason for him to observe the bandh.

The members of the Congress party submitted a memorandum to the President and Governor through the Kullu SDM regarding the problems faced by the masses due to the ban of old currency notes. Kullu Block Congress Committee president Uttam Sharma stated that people were facing problem due to shortage of cash and for having to wait in long queues in banks and ATMs.

Even while most of the banks did not have lower denomination currency due to which cash withdrawals were not possible, people said that the cash crunch had reduced and life was returning to normal.
