Centre for CNG transport in Uttarakhand: Pradhan

The Central Government is committed to making Uttarakhand a carbon-free state by introducing CNG-based transportation in March, Union Minister for Petroleum Dharmendra Pradhan said here today.

Pradhan said he held meeting today for clearing the proposal for domestic gas supply and CNG-run transportation system.

“The towns of Rudrapur and Haridwar are now covered under the gas supply network. We want the domestic gas supply to reach the households through a pipeline network. The transport system runs fully on CNG, as it is being run in New Delhi, ” he said while addressing mediapersons.

Pradhan said his government’s focus was also on increasing concentration of bottling plants and depots in hilly areas. “We believe that hilly areas should be stocked with the petroleum products for overcoming vagaries of weather,” he said.

On the issue of BJP’s reluctance to announce a Chief Minister face for the 2017 Assembly elections, Pradhan, who has also been entrusted with the election-related responsibility of Uttarakhand, said, “It is being done as part of a political strategy. Those who are aware of the party’s culture will know that everything will be done keeping that in mind.”

He also sounded optimistic that the country as a whole would be able to attract an investment of 25 billion dollars due to the reform initiatives taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the oil-sector.
