Shimla, April 23

The BJP today launched “Swachhata Abhiyan” (Cleanliness drive) in all 34 wards of the Shimla Municipal Corporation with broom-wielding party leaders and workers swarming the nook and corner of the town ahead of Prime minister Narendra Modi’s rally on The Ridge on April 27.

Launching the drive was a two-pronged strategy to send the message that the party is serious about carrying “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” and also to establish personal contact with the people and inviting them to the rally.

State organisational general secretary Pawan Rana, chief spokesman of the party Rajiv Bindal, former state BJP chief Suresh Bharadwaj, former Rajya Sabha member Vimla Kashyap, state BJP vice-president Ganesh Dutt and several other office-bearers, joined by hundreds of workers, swept the streets and roads and collected the garbage.

Party spokesman Mohinder Dharmani said various social and religious organisations would join the cleanliness campaign tomorrow.
