Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today called for the preservation of the town’s rich heritage.

As the town celebrated 200 years of the Deputy Commissioner’s office today, the Chief Minister said: “We cannot climb up the ladder if we forget our history and culture. We are committed to renovating the old buildings such as Gaiety Theatre and Town Hall,” he added.

Recalling his childhood days, the Chief Minister said he would wait eagerly for the postman who was unfazed by a disaster, rain or storm. He said: “The future generations should draw inspiration from such people.”

Referring to the write-up of Srinivas Joshi, the Chief Minister said: “The guidelines that Joshi are talking about in the book are meant for youngsters.”

He said the MC office was being renovated. The Chief Minister released a book “The Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Two Centuries of an Institution 1815-2015” today. He also unveiled the DC office plaque.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Pensioners Facilitation Centre, Record Room for Urban and Rural Tehsil Shimla under the National Land Record Modernisation Project and Model Tehsil.

Raaja Bhasin, who has edited the book, talked about the journey of the town.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Malhotra gave a detailed account of the colonial administrative history of Shimla when India Kewal Singh Chaudhary was the Deputy Commissioner of Independent India from July 5, 1947, to April 17, 1948.

IPH Minister Vidya Stokes, Shimla Mayor Sanjay Chauhan and Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar and other officials were also present.
