Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today asserted that he was hopeful of the return of the Congress government at the Centre in the 2019 parliamentary elections.

Harish Rawat, who is on a visit to the Kumaon division, was addressing a public meeting in Bageshwar district today. Rawat said the Congress would come to power with full majority in 2019 parliamentary elections and exhorted the party workers to unitedly work for the success of the party.

He again accused the state BJP government of discontinuing with the welfare schemes started by his government. Citing an example, Harish Rawat said the pension scheme for the aged started by him had been withdrawn and similarly the “Meray Bujurg Meray Teerath”, initiated by him. The scheme which facilitated free pilgrimage for the aged had also been discontinued by the present state government. Rawat also said he had specifically prepared schemes to promote and strengthen the economy and accused the incumbent BJP government of neglecting these schemes. He said the people of Uttarakhand had understood the anti-people agenda of the BJP and would certainly teach them a lesson in 2019 parliamentary elections.

Senior Congress leader and former Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, former MLA Lalit Faraswan and other senior congress leaders were present on the occasion.
