Haridwar, June 27

Congress activists, as a mark of protest, cleaned the ground where BJP national president Amit Shah had addressed Shankhnad rally on Saturday.

Terming Shah as the one who masterminded the Gujarat riots, Congress youth wing leader Ram Vishal Dev said such blotted politicians arriving in the pilgrim city had “polluted the clean-spiritual atmosphere of the city”, so it was imperative that they cleaned and purified the rally venue.

First the activists spread cow dung on the place where the stage was set up and after levelling it, they sprinkled holy Ganga jal as mark of purifiying the venue.

Thakur Ratan, rural Youth leader, said it was Amit Shah who plotted the rebellion of the dissident Congress legislators by offering them huge money so that they could dismantle the democratically-elected Congress Government in Uttarakhand.

“Amit Shah’s ploy to dislodge Chief Minister Harish Rawat-led coalition government through imposition of President’s rule could not materialise as the Supreme Court intervened. Such a person, who brought political uncertainty for two months in the state, was speaking of development and democracy during his twin rallies at Haridwar and Haldwani. Such dual-natured people will never be accepted by people of the state so we thought it better to purify the Rishikul ground, where he made false claims,” said Thakur Ratan.

Senior Congress leader Dr Santosh Chauhan termed the Shankhnad rally as a flop show. Claims made by BJP legislator Madan Kaushik and parliamentarian Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank of record crowd arrival for Shankhnad rally fell flat as less than 22,000 people, that too people from rural segments brought on basis of providence of money and food, arrived at the Rishikul ground, Chauhan added.

Amit Tyagi, Gaurav Chauhan, Jitendra Pokhriyal, Shoorveer Kaluda, Jitendra Singh, Ashok, Irshad and Dinesh Pundir participated in the activity.
