A case of “illegal” possession of a private room in the local Civil Hospital by a couple came to the fore yesterday when administrative officials raided the room.

The room was meant for patients.

The couple, who occupied the room for several months, managed to escape after locking the room reportedly in the wee hours of yesterday when they got a wind of impending action.

Sources said a man suffering from paralysis had come to the hospital for his treatment around a year ago. He managed to get the room and stayed there along with his wife. He neither vacated the room nor paid the charges even after being discharged from the hospital, they said.

Yesterday, a complaint was made to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anita Yadav, who tasked SDM Satyender Siwach and tehsildar Hitender Sharma to inquire into the matter.

Both officers raided hospital and found room number 80 locked. They called the police and got the lock broken. The officials then found utensils, a cooking gas, ration, vegetables and other household items inside the room, and handed them over to the hospital authorities.

Sharma said it was yet to be inquired that on whose name the room was allotted. Statements of hospital staff would be recorded.

“Action will be taken against those found guilty during the inquiry,” the tehsildar added.
