Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police K Rajendra today stressedon having people-friendly policing so that police force could build a positive image. “People friendly policing helps to eradicate the menace of crime in society and build the image of a police force,” Rajendra said while addressing a darbar of police officers and jawans at the District Police Lines, Reasi.

The police chief asked the participants to strengthen their bonds with public by delivering more efficiently and said aggressive behavior by the force affects police-public coordination, which was not practical by the any police force of 21st century. However, stressing on the importance of training in enhancing professionalism, the DGP said an ambitious plan had been chalked out to sharpen the professional skills of JKP.

Cautioning the police against use of disproportionate force, the DGP asked for careful handling of law and order situation and said that use of lethal weapons should be avoided. He said safety and security of the people was our prime concern, besides safeguarding integrity of the nation.

Emphasising on sustained fight against corruption and drug trafficking, Rajendra asked the jawans and officers to brace against this twin menace. He said the police had a challenging responsibility to eradicate both corruption and drug trafficking from the society. He said that corruption was the root cause of all evils and it was our prime responsibility to make the society corruption free. He spoke about the growing challenge to the society from land mafia and said the police had to discharge its responsibility in dealing with the mafia which had bearing on law and order situation.

The DGP said to strengthen the image of the organization among people, a spirit of public service was to be inculcated among the force. Police- public coordination is of paramount importance to keep the peace and order maintained in the society.

The DGP gave a patient hearing to the problems put forth by the jawans and officers during the durbar and issued on the spot directions for their redressal. The durbar was followed by Barakhana.
