Elderly man jumps into canal, dies

LUDHIANA: An elderly man, aged between 60 and 65 years, reportedly jumped into the Sidhwan Canal near Badewal this morning.

Ludhiana, February 21

An elderly man, aged between 60 and 65 years, reportedly jumped into the Sidhwan Canal near Badewal this morning. A passerby noticed him and raised the alarm. Later, he informed the police about the incident.

A police team reached the spot and rescued the man with the help of divers. They rushed him to a nearby hospital.

The doctors at the hospital declared the elederly person dead on arrival.

Police officials said the deceased elderly person was yet to be identified. His body was was kept at the mortuary of the local Civil Hospital after the doctors conducted a post-mortem examination on it.

The police suspect it to be a case of suicide.
