Patiala MP and rebel AAP leader Dr Dharamvira Gandhi along with a few former leaders of the party today launched a new front for “alternative politics” even as the front’s name and members are yet to be finalised.

A couple of lesser known political parties such as Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Party, Apna Punjab and Democratic Swaraj Party (floated by former leaders of Yogendra Yadav-led Swaraj Abhiyan) have announced support to the front.

“The Congress, Akali Dal and even AAP are not bothered about the aspirations of the people of the state. The Congress and AAP are being directed by leaders sitting in Delhi, while the Akali Dal has diluted its traditional political stand vis-a-vis state issues. An alternative front is the need of the hour”, Dr Gandhi said. “We will also announce the front’s constituents later as we want to accommodate maximum likeminded parties, groups and individuals,” he added.

The Patiala MP, however, didn’t clarify whether the front would eventually lead to the formation of a political outfit. “Only time will tell whether it will metamorphose into a political party or not. Fighting elections is not our ultimate goal,” he added.

On not quitting AAP despite differences, Dr Gandhi said: “Why should I resign from the party. Let them throw me out. As an MP, I have obligations towards the voters of my constituency.”
