Miffed over inadequate dowry, the groom and his family members allegedly attacked the bride and his family members at Jagatpura Kothe village, near Sunam, today.

The groom’s family reportedly brought more people to the wedding than mutually agreed upon by both sides, which led to heated arguments and clash.

Bride’s father Bhola Singh said after the death of her daughter’s first husband Swanpreet Singh a year ago, they decided to remarry her with deceased’s brother Lavpreet Singh of Barnala. He alleged that they had requested the groom’s family to bring only five-six persons, but they brought around 25.

“They demanded more dowry. When we refused, they attacked us and my daughter. When our neighbours gathered to support us, they fled,” he alleged.

Ramandeep Kaur, the bride, was admitted to the Sunam Civil Hospital with injuries in the stomach.

Major Singh, investigating officer, said they had recorded Ramandeep’s statement. “She has suffered injuries in the stomach. The wedding party returned without bride after a clash. We have started the investigations,” he said.
