The state government abolished entertainment tax on cable TV and DTH services in hotels from today. This would give a much needed relief to the hotel industry reeling under the effect of demonetisation.

Sandeep Sahni, president, Uttarakhand Hotel and Restaurant Association, in a press conference today said the government had cleared the proposal of abolishing entertainment tax on cable TV and DTH services in the hotel rooms during a Cabinet meeting held earlier and stamped the decision releasing a government order in this regard today.

Sahni said the hotel industry was suffering due to large number of taxes and further the demonetisation had led to decrease in the business. The decision of removing entertainment tax from hotels providing cable TV and DTH services to their guests comes as a welcome relief. He said the entertainment tax would remain applicable on the video games and the events to be held on New Year’s Eve.

The Chief Minister has understood the problem of the hotel industry and this is the move to provide some relief to them, said Shani. The Mussoorie Hotel Association president RN Mathur, Mussoorie Hotel Association officials Deepak Gupta, Ajay Bhargav and others were present on the occasion.
