Kheri Man Singh (Karnal), April 25

Gloom and anger prevailed at Kheri Man Singh, the native village of Ram Mehar (41), constable, Central Reserve Police Force, who was among the 25 soldiers killed in the Naxalite attack in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Monday.

Mehar was posted in Chhattisgarh for the past two years and was scheduled to retire soon.

The bereaved family members and villagers demanded the government to give a free hand to the Army to deal with such issues.

Mehar had joined as a constable around 19 years back and got married to Poonam Rain. They had two children--a boy who is in Class XII and a girl who is in Class VIII.

Puran Chand, father of the martyr, accused the government of not giving a free hand to security forces. He said the government had failed to take stringent action against Naxalites.

“Enemies hiding within the country have been killing our soilders and the government is not doing anything,” he added.

“The unfortunate incident came to our notice when officials from the company informed me about it on phone,” he said.

People flocked to the village to console the family.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Food and Supplies reached the martyr’s home and expressed condolences.

The mortal remains are expected to reach the village around 5pm.
