Commissioner Secretary, Power Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta on Tuesday said the commercial units can buy any number of LED bulbs under the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) Scheme that was launched by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, Gupta said the commercial units could buy any number of bulbs at a discounted rate against the market price of Rs 250 to Rs 300 per bulb.

He said the bulbs were initially available for Rs 95 each but after the announcement of Value-Added Tax (VAT) exemption in the state by the Chief Minister, the bulbs would now be available at Rs 75 each.

He said under the scheme, domestic consumers would be able to buy five high quality LED bulbs of 9W at a discounted rate of Rs 20 each. The scheme is being implemented by Power Development Department in collaboration with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of leading PSUs under the administration of the Union Ministry of Power.

Gupta said the consumers would have to produce a photocopy of the photo identity card and electricity bill for the purchase of LED bulbs.
