The Jathlana police has booked 10 students in a clash between seniors and juniors at the Global Research Institute of Management and Technology, Nachraun.

“We don’t want to spoil the career of any student. But, we have lodged a cross case against the students to investigate the matter,” Yamunanagar SP Ved Prakash Godara said. The situation was under control and the students were taking their examinations in a peaceful atmosphere.

Nine students from Jammu and Kashmir were injured in the clash which took place between two groups of engineering students over jumping a queue at the hostel mess on Saturday. The leaders of both groups belong to J&K and are roommates. They are both students of B.Tech fist year civil engineering and belong to Kishtwar and Srinagar.

Some of the students made an unsuccessful attempt to give the incident a communal angle but the timely efforts of the police and the management did not let the issue get out of hand. After the clash, 78 J&K students have returned home. However, several students have come back to appear for their exams which begin from December 18. IG, Karnal Range, Hanif Qureshi, today visited the college where he met with deputy commissioner Dr SS Phulia, SP Ved Prakash Godara, DSP Ajay Rana chairman of the institute, SK Jindal, treasurer Rajan Kumar and director Chanchal Bhardwaj.

He spoke to the students of the institute and took a round of the academic block. Bhardwaj said that there are 207 students, including 12 girls, from J&K in the institute.
