Pant institute holds RS Tolia lecture

PITHORAGARH: The GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development, Almora, today organised the RS Tolia memorial lecture on International Mountain Day in memory of the late former Chief Secretary of the state.

The GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development, Almora, today organised the RS Tolia memorial lecture on International Mountain Day in memory of the late former Chief Secretary of the state.

Institute Director Dr PP Dhyani said the beginning of the memorial lecture this year has been marked Dr Shekar Pathak’s presence, who is a well-known environmentalist. Dr Pathak delivered a lecture on the occasion.

“The subject of lectures that will follow in the coming years will focus on diversity in hill region and assertion of its identity and will be directed towards making Himalayan region well known in the periphery of world culture and society, besides natural biodiversity,” said Dr Dhyani.

Delivering the first Dr RS Tolia memorial lecture at the institute, Dr Pathak said varied nature of Himalayan society culture and bio-diversity needed to be protected as Himalayan region was well known for its unique nature of diversity of races, culture and social customs, besides bio-diversity.

Besides Dr Pathak and institute director Dr Dhyani, several scientists from other research institutes like Dr Dobhal, environmental activist Ramesh Pahari, Mahendra Kunwar, Thresh Kunwar and representative of the Indian mountain initiative Dr S Ramola were present. — OC
