PGI ophthalmologists bring laurels

CHANDIGARH:Faculty members and residents at Advanced Eye Centre (AEC) of the PGI won laurels for the institute at the recentlyconcluded National Annual Conference ofthe All-India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) held in Jaipur.

Faculty members and residents at Advanced Eye Centre (AEC) of the PGI won laurels for the institute at the recently concluded National Annual Conference of the All-India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) held in Jaipur.

The conference was attended by over 8,000 ophthalmologists from India and abroad.

Prof Jagat Ram was honoured as International Hero of Ophthalmology in India for having won the most prestigious Best of the Best Video Award at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Conference 2016. He also won the Best Surgical Video Award at this AIOS conference.

Prof Sushmita Kaushik was honoured as the International Hero of Ophthalmology in India for her coveted oral presentation at the annual conference of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Chicago, 2016.

Three postgraduate research theses from the Ophthalmology Department, PGI, were shortlisted in the final 12 from India for judging the best thesis.

Dr Simar Rajan Singh’s thesis entitled “Biodegradable Material for Glaucoma Drainage Devices – a Pilot study in Rabbits” was adjudged the Best Thesis of the AIOS and was awarded Rs 1 lakh to attend the next American Academy of Ophthalmology Conference in the US.

Dr Natasha Gautam’s Thesis entitled “Ability of Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography to Detect Progression in Glaucoma Suspects and Glaucoma Patients” was adjudged the second runner-up. Dr Ramanuj Samanta received the best poster award of the AIOS.

In addition, the faculty of the AEC were invited to deliver lectures, courses and talks across all specialities and were very well appreciated.
