The Punjab Medical Council has removed Dr Manjit Kaur Mohi from the post of registrar of the council. However contrary to the rules, she is still continuing as Director, Medical Education and Research, despite attaining the age of 58.

She was holding post of the registrar of the council by virtue of her position as Director, Medical Education and Research.

In an office order, Dr GS Grewal, president of the council, said since Dr Mohi attained the age of 58, there was no provision for allowing the registrar to continue beyond 58. The president removed her from the post using his emergency powers.

The charge of registrar has been given to Dr Vinod Sood for the time being.

Earlier, Dr Grewal and Dr Mohi had been at logger heads on various issues. Dr Grewal had alleged that Dr Mohi had sabotaged their council’s centenary celebrations.

Under the Punjab Medical Education (Group-A) Service Rules, 2016 there is no provision for the Director to continue after 58. Dr Mohi attained that age early last month, but the government initiated the process to give her extension.

Dr Mohi didn’t take call despite repeated attempts.
