Poor garbage removal angers Congress councillors in DMC

Councillors of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation belonging to the Congress staged a protest outside the Mayor’s office here today against poor garbage collection in the city. They said the DMC had failed to maintain proper garbage collection in the city due to which people were forced to live in unhealthy conditions.

However, insufficient sanitary staff, damaged vehicles and lack of equipments have affected the functioning of door-to-door garbage collection. Added to it the policies of DMC officials have worsened the situation. Councillors also slammed Mayor of incapable to manage irked sanitary workers, which result in the heaps of garbage spread all over the city.

Earlier, the Congress councillors staged a dharna outside the Mayor’s office and raised slogans against him. They also questions his capability to solve the prolong situation. Leader of opposition Neenu Sehgal said, “Citizens of Dehradun city are facing problem of garbage collection from a long period but DMC officials are unable to handle the situation.” Most of the equipments and vehicles are not in working condition, on the other hand sanitary workers are also annoyed with the functioning of DMC officials and ultimate sufferers are the people, he said. He also threatened that if the problem of garbage collection was not solved soon they would hold a protest.

Jagdish Dheeman, Ashok Kohli, Anand Tyagi, Devendra Pal, Sushil Kumar and Sonu Uniyal took part in the protest.
