In an apparent bid to curtail wasteful expenditure, the Haryana Government has taken a policy decision on outsourcing of vehicles and drivers from private transport companies for certain categories of officials.

In the first phase, the policy will be implemented for officials of the agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and women and child departments, besides all boards, corporations and universities.

“From now, the Finance Department will not sanction any new vehicle for these departments. They shall also stop purchasing replacement vehicles,” states the policy.  A seven-member committee headed by the Department of Supplies and Disposals’ incharge will formulate modalities for shortlisting the firms for providing transport services to government departments.

“To finalise the option of GPS-monitored vehicles, logbooks will be included in the panel’s scope,” sources said.

Officers, they said, would be provided outsourced vehicles according to entitlement. However, field officials such as Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars will be provided Bolero, Tata Sumo or similar vehicles.

Since outsourced vehicles will not be permitted in high-security offices, secretaries and above would be exempted.
