Kurukshetra, October 24

Four-day youth cultural festival ‘Ratnawali’ began at Kurukshetra University here today. Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki inaugurated the event.

A musical play on the Mahabharata was presented by students of DAV College for Women, Yamunanagar. It was followed by ‘Loor’ dance performance by students of Arya PG College, Panipat.

The Governor said the introduction of ‘Loor’ in the festival would help to sustain the culture of the state. “Both performances by girl groups were mesmerising. Women must be given be platforms to exhibit their talents,” said the Governor.

Solanki said Ratnawali which was being oragnised for the past 32 years was the pride of the state. He appreciated the KU’s contribution towards preserving the state’s culture for more than three decades.

University Vice-Chancellor (VC) KC Sharma dedicated the programme to BSF head constable Sushil Kumar who died in an unprovoked firing by the Pakistan security forces in Jammu today.

“Ratnawali started with 350 participants in 1985. This year, more than 3,500 students are participating in 33 disciplines,” he said.
