The Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS) today asked the public to spread the agitation for reservation in villages as the government, it said, is in no mood to accept the demands.

“The agitation entered the ninth day today. The Haryana Government has not paid attention towards any of our demands. So, we feel there is need to take the agitation at village level,” said Capt Bhupinder Singh Jaglan, district president, ABJASS.

He told protesters in the district’s Khatkar village that if required, people could start agitation in village chaupals peacefully. The samiti started an indefinite hunger strike after performing a havan.

Azad Singh of Dariyawala village (Khera khap), Jainarayan Ziledar of Khokhir village (Kandela khap), Kitab Singh of Badhanpur village (Dhadhan khap), Randhir Singh Chahal of Jaglan village (Nogama khap) and Nafe Singh of Chattar village and from Thua Tpaa Khap sat on a 24-hour hunger strike on the first day. “Every day, five persons will sit on fast to mount pressure on the government to accept our demands,” Capt Jaglan said.

The demands include withdrawal of cases registered during the agitation in February, release of “innocent” persons, grant of compensation and government jobs to families of persons killed in the February agitation, and reservation to Jats in Haryana and at the Centre.

The samiti asked the people to boycott Jat leaders who were playing into the hands of the Haryana Government.

The ABJASS, Capt Jaglan said, wanted the people to boycott Jat leaders who had condemned the agitation. “Jat leaders staying away from the agitation said they would make their stand clear after the High Court’s hearing on June 13. The samiti will see what stance they adopt.” The administration did not permit the ABJASS to protest in Julana and Narwana, he said, adding leaders of the samiti would meet officials again. “The plan is to start agitation in Julana and Narwana on June 15.”

On ABJASS president Yashpal Malik, Capt Jaglan said the district unit had not received any Haryana plan of our national president, Yashpal Malik as he is busy in the agitation in Uttar Pradesh.”

Vir Bhan Dhull, general secretary, ABJASS, said: “The samiti condemns another fake case registered against Malik.”
