RAIKOT/LUDHIANA: The Punjab Government has initiated process for establishing a technical education institute and skill development center at Bassian in memory of late Shiromani Akali Dal stalwart Jatheder Jagdev Singh Talwandi.

The Punjab Government has initiated process for establishing a technical education institute and skill development center at Bassian in memory of late Shiromani Akali Dal stalwart Jatheder Jagdev Singh Talwandi. He died a last year.

The announcement was made by CM Punjab Parkash Singh Badal after paying tributes to Jathedar Talwandi during a function organisedat Gurdwara Tahliana Sahib here.

Maintaining that late Talwandi had played a vital role in strengthening the Shiromani Akali Dal and fostering harmony among members of various communities including Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims during darker days of the border state, Badal said all sections of society owed a lot to the Talwandi family. Acknowledging that Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi had inherited patriotic and affectionate traits from his father Chhanga Singh, Badal appreciated that these traits were manifested in his sons.

Claiming that work on designing and construction of the technical center will start without further delay the CM said the project will provide an opportunity to the youth of the region.

Acknowledging that successive Union Governments had failed to come to expectations of small and marginal farmers,he urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impress upon the authorities concerned in the union government to launch special insurance schemes for rescuingdebt ridden farmers. He said he will meet the PM on Monday.

Jather Sri Akal Takhat Giani Gurbbachan Singh, union minister Vijay Sampla, speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal, MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Prem Singh Chandumajra, cabinet minister Tota Singh, former cabinet minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, chairman Subordinate Selection Board Santa Singh Umaidpuri and legislator Manpreet Singh Ayali were among others who paid tributes to Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi.

The Chief Minister later chaired a state-level function organised by Aggarwal Sabha at Ludhiana and assured members of the organisation that their genuine demands will be discussed favorably during a meeting to beheld soon.

Activists and office-bearers of the outfit led by Pardeep Mittal had demanded five per cent reservation in government jobs and substantial representation for the electoral process during 2017 assembly election in the state.
