Teddy tells a tale

Jasmine Singh

It’s a girly thing; cute stuffed toys, small, medium, big, cuddly, white, pink, teddy hug….all this, yes it is girly stuff! So, today, February 10, being the Teddy Day, wouldn’t you still want to know who gives teddies still and who loves to receive this cuddly gift still? And whether it is still the oh-so-sweet token of love for your date? Before you dismiss it, don’t forget to check out the Rs 20,000 designer teddy, all decked-up in a tuxedo, at a gift store near you or online.

Now, coming back to the girly stuff - who gives a teddy?

Thought matters

Love is all about expressing; you can say it through words, through gestures, through flowers, chocolates or even a teddy. I, however, wouldn’t mind giving a teddy to my date; a huge one. It still stands for that symbol of puppy and cuddly kind of love.

— Yuvraj Hans, singer

Girls have moved on?

I think girls have graduated to expensive and viable gifts. Teddy though remains the favourite item in teenage, school-going kind of love, when this is the maximum a lover can afford! You wouldn’t quite possibly believe, but according to a study, teddy occupies a number two slot on the gifts that a girl would want on her 21st birthday, including many others of course!

— Sahil Anand, actor

Ongoing tradition

Sounds strange; some gifts become something like a tradition. Just like gifting a teddy. One on every birthday, one every Valentine for my lady love is a tradition that goes on interrupted! We have a cabinet especially secured for this lovely gift, some ‘lucky’ teddies are washed and even dry-cleaned and kept in an absolutely fine condition. What has changed in our case is the size; earlier I would go for bigger teddies, now I prefer the decent and small ones, either stuck on a mug or pen stand or otherwise.

— Rj Pankaj

Grow up man

Who gives teddies these days? I haven’t seen girls even carrying a teddy key-chain. I mean, it is still okay to gift it when you are in seventh or eighth grade, not after that! Also, teddy has become a side-kick, a girl would expect, something more along with it. I would gift teddy to my three-year-old kid niece, but to my date…pitna hai kya!

— Amber, singer

So sweet

There can’t be anything more sweet or romantic than a cute-looking teddy for Valentine’s, now and always!
