Four days after an elderly man from Dhanana village from the district was killed by cattle smugglers that led to angry protests by villagers, police arrested two of the three accused for perpetrating the crime.

The arrested persons — Manoj Kumar of Sonepat district and Vicky of Sunaria village in Rohtak district — were produced in court today.

Reportedly, Prithivi Singh was found dead in his fields at Dhanana village on July 29 with his hands and legs tied. The cattle smuggler gagged him after he resisted their attempts to smuggle his buffaloes.

Later, fellow villagers placed his body on the road and staged a protest for a few hours on Thursday and demanded arrests of those accused.

The police said they arrested Manoj and seized the vehicle used for the crime near Julana village before arresting Vicky; Manoj also revealed the name of his accomplice, Aftab from Uttar Pradesh, who is still to be arrested.
