The Uttarakhand Cricket Association will honour state players Aryan Sharma and Arya Sethi, who have selected captain and vice-captain of the U-16 Uttar Pradesh cricket team, respectively.

Cricket Association of Uttarakhand president Hira Singh Bisht has said Aryan Sharma will represent Uttar Pradesh U-16 cricket team in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Aryan made into the team from UP’s 12th zone, which is allocated for Uttarakhand, as the hill state is not separately associated with the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).

Vice-captain Arya Sethi also hails from Dehradun and is student of the Asian School.

Terming it as a major achievement, considering Uttarakhand has not still been considered as liable for separate state affiliation by the BCCI, Hira Singh Bisht said young promising players from Uttarakhand, who are making into top league like Unmukt Chand, Rishabh Pant, Pawan Negi, Aryan Sharma and Arya Sethi will surely make BCCI think about giving Uttarakhand separate state affiliation.

PC Verma, secretary of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand, said both captain Aryan Sharma and vice-captain Arya Sethi had been a product of Abhimanyu Cricket Academy, Dehradun.

He said the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand would honour the players as and when they would return to the state. This would motivate other budding players also. Cricket Association of Haridwar president Neeraj Sharma and general secretary Inder Mohan Barthwal said four league matches would be played by the Uttar Pradesh team in coveted Vijay Merchant Trophy with final to be played on January 26.

“Aryan has been a cricket prodigy right from early age. He is an excellent cricketer with penchant for technical excellence. Last year he couldn’t make it to the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore, but now he has selected in the India U-19,” said Barthwal.
