Wait ends as CID handed DNA report

The much-awaited DNA report in the Yug murder case was submitted to the CID (crime branch) by the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) today, clearing the decks for the filing of challan in the court.

The CID, which had completed the investigations and collected scientific and other evidence, had prepared the challan and sent to the legal branch for vetting and was eagerly awaiting the DNA report to file the challan in the court.

Director, Forensic Lab, Junga, Arun Sharma said 10 reports, including the DNA, diatomic (to ascertain whether he was dumped in the water tank after murder or alive) and biological reports, had been submitted to the investigating agency.

“The other reports include four reports from the physics division comparing photographs retrieved from one of the accused, Vikrant’s mobile, and the one pertaining to the stone tied to the skeleton. All queries of the police have been answered in the quality report given to them,” he added.SP, CID, Ashok Kumar said: “We received a number of reports today, but I am yet to pursue the reports for a detailed analysis.”

The skeletal remains of Yug were sent for the DNA testing and later blood samples of his father and mother were also sent. Yug’s family was also eagerly waiting for the report so that last rites of the deceased could be performed. Four-year-old Yug was allegedly abducted on June 14, 2014, tortured and dumped in a water tank tied with a stone on June 21, 2014, seven days after the abduction, even before the demand for ransom was made.

His skeletal remains were recovered near the main water tank at Kelston on August 22, 2016, almost two years after the heinous crime was committed and the three accused — Chander, Tajender and Vikrant Bakshi — who were booked under Sections 302, 201, 342, 364 A and 120 B of IPC are still in judicial custody.

The investigating agency has enough evidence against the accused and with the DNA report being positive, the accused will not be able to escape stringent punishment for the heinous crime, sources in the CID maintained.

The brutal murder had sent shock-waves across the town and enraged residents took out processions and candle marches to express their anger and rage, demanding capital punishment for the accused.
