Walkathons held to mark World Heart Day

JAMMU:In order to promote health and to observe World Heart Day, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in association with Sahyog India today organised walkathons on the theme “Power Your Life” in Jammu and Udhampur districts.

Jammu, September 29

In order to promote health and to observe World Heart Day, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in association with Sahyog India today organised walkathons on the theme “Power Your Life” in Jammu and Udhampur districts.

A large number of people from all walks of life participated in the walkathon. The event was flagged off by Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jammu, at Dushera Ground, Gandhi Nagar. The rally passed through markets of Apsra Road and Gole Market before culminating at Rotary Club, Green Belt Park in Jammu.

In Udhampur district, the event was flagged off by DC Niraj Kumar from his office premises. The rally culminated at Dhabar Park.

“Cardiac diseases are essentially lifestyle diseases and we can reduce the risk by adopting healthy food, making exercise a part of our daily routine, walking for 30 minutes almost every day, decreasing quantum of fat-rich diet and consuming healthy oil,” said Dr Ujwal Mehrotra.

Meanwhile, Dr Sushil K Sharma, Head of Cardiology Department, Government Medical College and Superspeciality Hospital, Jammu, today said heart diseases were increasing globally because of high consumption of tobacco, alcohol, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, stress, diabetes, unhealthy diet and various other reasons.
