Two men riding a motorcycle shot dead a woman, who was an accused in a case of desecrating Guru Granth Sahib, at Alamgir village here on Tuesday morning.

Balwinder Kaur, 45, resident of Ghawaddi village, was arrested for allegedly desecrating the holy book on October 19, 2015. She was later released on bail.

Police said someone invited Kaur outside Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Alamgir, on Tuesday. She, along with her son, reached there in an auto-rickshaw, when the unidentified men riding a motorcycle fired at Balwinder. The victim died on the spot.

Last year, police had arrested Kaur for the alleged sacrilege at the Ghawaddi gurdwara. Kaur had allegedly desecrated the pages of the scripture. She had been serving at the gurdwara for over two decades.

She was out on bail for the past few days. Police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh reached the spot. The body has sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem.
