Congress media in charge and Kaithal MLA Randeep Singh Surjewala today accused the BJP and the RSS of ‘conspiring’ to abolish reservation for Dalits. He cited the statements of the RSS top brass in support of his contention.

He was at Kalidas Rangsala here today to chair a state-level Dalit Sammelan organised by former MLA Raj Kumar Valmiki. Surjewala said atrocities against Dalits have increased and about 50 such cases were being registered across the country everyday.

He also accused the Union government of shrinking the quota of jobs for Scheduled Castes and reducing the budget for the schemes meant for Dalits. He claimed that during the Congress regime, 92,928 Dalit youths were given government jobs in 2013 and this number reduced to 8,436 during the NDA regime in 2015. Similarly, the Union government had reduced the budget of pre-matric scholarship scheme for Dalits to Rs 50 crore in 2017-18 from Rs 882 crore in 2013-14 during the Congress regime, he added. Surjewala criticised the Centre for not spending any money for manual scavengers’ employment and rehabilitation. He accused it of abolishing the SC/ST sub-plan.

He the Rs 11,500 Punjab National Bank fraud and similar other cases showed that the Centre has failed to prevent scams.
