Hisar, September 22

The police yesterday booked a Congress activist for cheating and using forged documents after he was found in possession of a car bearing registration number belonging to the Chinese Embassy. On Tuesday, the police had impounded the car owned by Abhimanyu, youth wing leader of the party, during his visit to Hisar to attend a meeting with Ashok Tanwar, HPCC president.

The police said a team of the Haryana Police went to Delhi to inquire the matter and found that the Chinese Embassy had disposed of the car in an auction. Surender Sethi, car dealer who purchased the car, further sold it to Abhimanyu, a resident of Rohtak.

The inquiry revealed that Sethi died in September 2014. His wife reportedly told the police that she was not aware of the transactions of the car.

Abhimanyu told the police that Sethi was known to him and had assured to bring him the no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Chinese Embassy.

Mandeep Singh, SHO, Civil Lines, said criminal breach of trust, cheating by personation, forgery for purpose of cheating and using as genuine a forged document cases had been registered against him. He said the Chinese Embassy had assured to send the details of the car to the police after which further action would be taken in the case.
