AMBALA: A team of health officials busted a sex determination racket with the arrest of three persons in Haridwar on Sunday.



Ambala: A team of health officials busted a sex determination racket with the arrest of three persons in Haridwar on Sunday. Dr Vinod Gupta, Civil Surgeon, said, "Acting on a tipoff about prenatal sex determination in Barara, a team of doctors comprising of Dr Vipin Bhandari, Nodal Officer, PNDT and Dr Mandeep Sachdeva was constituted. A pregnant lady was arranged as a decoy patient. A tout, Rajni of Barara was contacted and a deal was struck for Rs 30,000." The decoy patient met Rajni and the accused couple, Sukhdeep Kaur and Karan Singh of Lalru, in Barara from where she was taken to Roorkee. In the meantime, Haridwar CMO also arranged a PNDT team to accompany the health team from Ambala. The tout took the decoy patient to Dr ND Arora of Heart Care and Diagnostics Centre where an ultrasound was performed. The teams sealed the ultrasound room at that centre. While Dr Arora was handed over to the Haridwar administration, the tout and the couple were arrested by the Haryana Police. A case has been registered under the PCPNDT Act and the IPC. TNS

Grievances committee resolves 8 plaints 

Yamunanagar: A meeting of the District Grievances Redressal Committee was held at the Mini Secretariat here on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Local Urban Bodies Minister Kavita Jain. DC Rohtash Singh Kharb said 14 complaints were listed for the meeting. He said eight out of the 14 complaints were disposed of and the rest six complaints were kept pending for next meeting. The meeting was attended by KK Bhadu, ADC and SP Rajesh Kalia among others. TNS

Jhajjar: District and Sessions Judge Krishan Kumar inaugurated a kiosk setup at the district courts complex here on Monday. Litigants and advocates can find details of cases and read diaries and judgments with this kiosk. TNS

Land transferred for setting up sub-station 

Chandigarh: The state government has approved the transfer of 11 acres, 7 kanal and 16 marla land of Bakana gram panchayat, block Radaur, to Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited(HVPNL) on market rates for the setting up of 66 kv sub-station at Bakana village in  Yamunanagar district.He said the gram panchayat had passed a resolution to transfer land to the HVPNL. The land would be transferred on market rate of Rs 25 lakh per acre. The CM has also approved to upgrade Sub Health Centre, Bansudhar,  Sirsa, to the level of PHC. TNS
