Gurugram, December 3

Those planning to party on MG Road this Christmas or New Year’s Eve will have to get themselves registered biometrically at clubs as the Gurugram police are set to record fingerprint and face profile of party patrons to ensure a crime-free nightlife.

The clubs and lounges on MG Road have come under the police scanner yet again with the Punjab and Haryana High Court partially vacating a stay on its previous order barring police from taking coercive action against club owners. The court also sought detailed suggestions by December 20 to make the city’s nightlife crime-free.

Acting on the orders, Commissioner of Police KK Rao, who spearheaded a drive against illegal activities such as prostitution on clubs’ premises, has formed a panel to draft a detailed plan.

The police will install biometric machines in clubs that will not only record fingerprints but also take pictures of partygoers. Besides keeping an eye on club activity, the data will allow the police to identify daily visitors and trail/nab drug dealers, sex traders, etc, running illicit trade from such places.

“We will speak to our counterparts in Mumbai and Bengaluru before chalking out a plan,” says Rao.
