Sonepat wrestler gears up for Asian Championship

SONEPAT: Praveen Malik (18), originally a resident of Kasanda village and presently residing in Gohana town in the district will represent India in 74-kg weight category in the five-day Asian Junior Wrestling Championship to be held at Thailand from July 9 to 13.

SONEPAT: Praveen Malik (18), originally a resident of Kasanda village and presently residing in Gohana town in the district will represent India in 74-kg weight category in the five-day Asian Junior Wrestling Championship to be held at Thailand from July 9 to 13. In his wrestling career of three years, he has won gold medals in several national and international championships. The principal and other staff members of Janata College, Butana near Gohana and district president of the BJP Dr Dharambir Nandal congratulated Parveen.

Rohtak boy puts up a good show  

Rohtak: Garv Kochhar, a Class V student of Scholars Rosary School, Rohtak, who recently attended a one-month production-based theatre workshop organised by the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, at the National Gallery of Modern Arts. He was the only one to be selected from Haryana. The participants prepared a full-length play “Tota” based upon a famous story of Ravindra Nath Tagore. The play was directed by Nisha Trivedi, a senior fellow of the NSD. Dr Ravi Gugnani, director of the school, congratulated Garv and emphasised that theatre was not just a medium for acting, but went a long way in shaping the personality and character of a child.

Water conservation drive in Kaithal  

Kaithal: Deputy commissioner Priyanka Soni, at a meeting here recently, issued directions to district officials on the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’, which will be launched in the district on July 1. “If the excessive and non-judicious use of water continues, we will face grave water crisis,” she said. Under the campaign, departments, including forest, MNREGA, PWD and others, will prepare a roadmap and work for water conservation. The chief executive officer of the zila parishad had been appointed nodal officer for the project, she said. 

International hockey players get warm welcome

Sonepat: Three international women hockey players — Neha Goyal, Nisha Warship and Jyoti Rumawat — from Industrial Women Hockey Ground at Sonepat were accorded warm welcome on their arrival at the ground, after winning FIH Women Series at Hiroshima in Japan recently. Among those who welcome them at the ground included former captain of the Indian Women Hockey team and Arjuna awardee Pritam Siwach, chairman of the ground committee Prem Singh Dahiya, press coordinator Arvind Kumar and several other hockey lovers were present on the occasion. 

Post Chaudhary murder, politicians jittery

Faridabad: The murder of the HPCC spokesperson Vikas Chaudhary recently seems to have sent a chill down the spine of many, especially those in the political arena. A former MLA from the city was heard saying that the incident had created fear among political persons who were in opposition and had no security ring. A political activist said it had exposed the threat of criminal gangs and mafia that had grown with the development of the city. Expressing concern Palwal MLA Karan Dalal said it had not only exposed the tall claims of the government regarding the law and order condition, but also the danger to all those who didn’t have a security cover.
