Hisar girl cremated, emotions run high

The six-year-old girl, who was sexually brutalised and killed in Hisar’s Uklana town, was cremated today amid an emotionally-charged atmosphere and tight police security. 

  Agitated locals protested over the gruesome crime and served a 48-hour ultimatum on the police to arrest the girl’s killer. Led by Additional Deputy Commissioner AS Maan, district officials met the family members of the victim today. During the meeting, residents and various political and social organisations told the officials that they would on Tuesday chalk out the further course of action if the police failed to nab the accused.

Maan said the police had announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh to anyone providing information about the accused. Besides, the ADC said, the state government would help the victim’s family with a compensation of Rs 10 lakh and jobs to two of the family members. The administration has also decided to fund construction of five pucca houses for the families living in shanties in Uklana town. 

The girl’s parents asked officials to ensure capital punishment to the accused. Meanwhile, the swab samples have been sent to the forensic science laboratory to establish whether the girl had been raped.

The girl was abducted from inside the hut where she was asleep with her family on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Her body was found near the Telephone Exchange building on Saturday morning.

The victim’s father said her mother woke up to find that one of their three children was missing. “She raised an alarm and then started a hunt to locate her,” said the grieving father, who was in Gurugram when the incident occurred. 

“After some time, someone informed us that my daughter’s body had been found in a brutal condition,” the mother said.
