Rohtak, December 10

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has summoned the Rohtak SP for inaction against the person(s) involved in the construction of an illegal religious structure in a green belt along the Rohtak-Panipat National Highway.

Judge Nirmaljit Kaur observed that though an FIR had been registered, no action had been taken.

“Accordingly, the Superintendent of Police, Rohtak, to be impleaded as respondent No 7,” the Judge maintained, directing the Rohtak SP to be present before the court on the next date of hearing.

Abhinav Sood, the counsel for the petitioner, said the case had been adjourned to March 18, 2019.

Neelam, a local resident, had filed a petition for contempt of a Supreme Court’s order which stated that “We direct that henceforth, no unauthorised construction will be carried out or permitted in the name of temple, church, mosque or gurdwara etc on public streets, parks or other public places”.

The apex court’s order further maintains that “we direct all District Collectors and Magistrates/Deputy Commissioners in charge of the districts to ensure that there is total compliance of the order passed by us”.

The petitioner had maintained that the construction of the said religious structure was unauthorised, unpermitted and illegal and was being constructed by Dinesh Ghilour under the patronage of a local minister, Deputy Commissioner and the municipal officials concerned.

The petitioner stated that as per the RTI replies, this religious structure was being built in violation of the Punjab Scheduled Road and Regulation Act, 1963. She pointed out that any plan of the said religious structure had not been sanctioned or could be permitted as per law.
