Kaithal MC stops construction of Rs 34.45-cr project

KAITHAL: The Municipal Council (MC), Kaithal, unanimously passed a resolution on Friday to immediately stop the construction work of the City Square project and seize the material lying at the site.

The Municipal Council (MC), Kaithal, unanimously passed a resolution on Friday to immediately stop the construction work of the City Square project and seize the material lying at the site. The foundation stone of the Rs 38.45-crore project was laid by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The resolution moved by Nisha Garg took strong objections to various irregularities being committed by MC officials in construction of the project.

Rakesh Sardana, Councillor from Ward 8, had raised objections to the payment of Rs 3 crore to the construction company, M/S Garg and Company, within a few days of allotment of work order as secured advance without production of bills.

He also pointed out that sufficient bank guarantee was not taken from the company which was mandatory to safeguard the interests of the MC if the contractors failed to execute the project as per terms of the agreement.
