The residents welfare associations (RWAs) of various sectors of the Haryana Shehari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) have started campaign against the BJP nominees in the MC elections in all five towns which are set to go for the urban local body polls in Haryana.

The All Haryana Sectors Sangharsh Samiti (AHSSS) has formed teams led by the RWA presidents who have started a door-to-door public contact programme in the five towns.

They demand that the state government must withdraw the enhancement notices served to the HSVP residents and accept the nine points agreed upon in a meeting of the association and the state government in May. They have been demanding recalculation of the enhancement charges being imposed on the residents.

AHSSS president Kuldeep Vats said four teams were campaigning in the four zones of Hisar town. “We would cover entire urban areas, including sectors and other residential localities. We are urging the people to vote against the BJP nominee,” he said, adding that a similar drive has started in Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Yamunanagar as well.

He said the HSVP had served notices to charge about Rs 4,200 crore from the sector residents. “The charges have been wrongly calculated. These exorbitant charges cannot be claimed from the residents. The recalculation must be done,” he said.

In Hisar, he said, enhancement charges to the tune of Rs 468 crore have been imposed on the residents.

On May 5, the Chief Minister announced one-time rebate of 40 per cent on total outstanding amount of enhancement to HSVP residents that was valid for two months. The CM also announced that those who did not want to avail this rebate of 40 per cent, fresh calculation of the enhancement charges would be done according to the objections after expiry of the rebate opportunity.

In the scheme, the HSVP recovered about Rs 832 crore of the entire amount.
