Chandigarh, October 18

Come elections and the illegal transactions of “satta” witness a phenomenal surge in Haryana.

With just three days left for the polling for the Assembly elections in the state, the satta trade is thriving in almost all small and big towns of Haryana. Requesting anonymity, a punter in Sirsa told The Tribune that among those putting their money on satta on elections include candidates contesting the poll, leaders of political parties and also government officials.

Money is put on betting on the number of seats a particular party will win in the October 21 elections, victory or defeat of particular candidates and even on the number of votes a particular candidate will get.

“Though the estimate of the punters keeps changing, as of today the satta is saying yes for 59 seats for the BJP in the poll and no to 61 seats. This means if a person wants to put their money saying that the ruling party will get less than 59 seats, we welcome the bet. Also, if a person says that the party will get more than 61 seats, we are ready to accept that bet too,” the punter says.

Putting all this in simple terms, the punter says that the satta at this moment predicts 59 to 61 seats for the BJP, 13 to 15 seats for the Congress and 9 to 11 seats for Dushyant Chautala’s JJP.
