Chandigarh, April 21
Prime Minister Narender Modi honoured Sonepat district for digital payments under the cashless campaign at a function organised in the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on Saturday.
An official spokesman said that Sonepat Deputy Commissioner Vinay Singh received the award along with a cheque for Rs 10 lakh. Of total 100 districts competing for the award, only two districts were honoured with Sonepat at the top.
After demonetisation, Modi had appealed to the people of the country to opt for digital payments and the campaign for this was started throughout the country.
The spokesman said that all 366 ration shops of the district are doing transactions on the digital mode and all petrol stations have installed POS machines. — TNS
