Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Rajeev Saizal today claimed that the state government was providing pension and allowances to more than 5.11 lakh beneficiaries.

Chairing a state-level meeting to review the implementation of various Central and state schemes, he said the government had accorded sanction to 23,442 pending applications up to March, 2019 under the social security scheme, taking the total number of pensioners to 5,34,578. Similarly, sanction had been granted to 1,20,581 new cases of social security pension scheme since January 1, 2018, he added.

The presentations were given during the meeting by Directorate of Empowerment of SCs, OBCs, Minorities and Specially Abled (ESOMSA) and Women and Child Development on various schemes being implemented through them.

The initiatives like Integrated Child development Services (ICDS), which aims at better management of Anganwadi workers and improving service quality, were also discussed in the meeting. The minister also reviewed the progress made under various schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matri Matru Vandana Yojana, Beti Hai Anmol and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
