The Mandi Childline, an NGO, averted the marriage of a minor boy here on Saturday.
Achhar Singh, centre coordinator, Childline, said they received information that one Gurjar family was to solemnise the marriage of their minor son (17) with a minor girl (17) of Manali this month.
“Our team visited the house of the boy at Katola and apprised his parents about the Prevention of Child Marriage Act. During counselling, it was observed that the parents were not aware about the law that child marriage is prohibited,” he added.
He said that the parents of both the minors had cancelled the marriage. — TNS
