Rain lashes Shimla, snow in tribal areas

SHIMLA: The maximum temperature rose by a few notches across Himachal as stormy conditions subsided after widespread heavy rain and hailstorms at many places in the past 24 hours.

The maximum temperature rose by a few notches across Himachal as stormy conditions subsided after widespread heavy rain and hailstorms at many places in the past 24 hours.

While high-altitude tribal areas and other higher reaches received fresh snow, the mid and lower hills received intermittent heavy rain and hailstorm and the minimum temperature stayed three to seven degree below normal.

Keylong and Kalpa reeled under severe cold conditions with minimum temperature at .6 degree and 1.4 degree while mercury stayed between minus 4 and minus 6 degree Celsius in the high-altitude tribal areas.

Shimla recorded a minimum of 5.8 degree Celsius, eight degree below normal, while Solan and Bhuntar registered the minimum 10.5 degree , followed by Sundernagar 11.6 degree, Nahan 12. 3 degree, Palampur 12.5 degree, Dharamsala 12.8 degree and Una 16 degree.

The local Met Office has predicted dry weather in the region on May 10 and 11 and rain and thunderstorm in mid and lower hills and rain or snow in the higher hills from May 12 to 15

Seobagh and Renuka were the wettest with 67 mm rain, while Mashobra and Shimla received 63 mm and 60 mm rain, followed by Theog 44 mm, Kandaghat 34 mm, Rajgarh 27 mm, Palampur 26 mm, Sarahan 25 mm, Kufri 24 mm, Gaggal 23 mm, Manali 19 mm, Kotkhai 18 mm, Solan 16 mm, Narkanda and Jhanjehli 14 mm, Dharampur and Kasauli 13 mm Dharamsala 12 mm, Dalhousie and Arki 11 mm and Banjar and Kumarsain 10 mm.

The day temperature increased by a few notches and Una recorded a high of 36.2 degree against 30.7 degree yesterday, followed by Sundernagar 30.4 degree, Nahan 29 degree, Bhuntar 26.5 degree, Solan 26.2 degree, Dharamsala 25.8 degree, Shimla 21.5 degree, Kalpa 14.4 degree and Keylong 11.2 degree C.
