Srinagar, February 11

Tension gripped Uri after an Army sentry guarding an artillery unit fired some shots after noticing suspicious movement near the camp.

The police said the security guard opened fire when he noticed suspicious movement around the Army artillery unit at Rajarwani, Uri, late Sunday night.

“During night, the sentry detected some suspicious movement around the camp and opened fire,” a police statement said.

The area was cordoned off and a search operation was carried out jointly by the police and Army.

“During the operation, no militant was spotted,” the police said.

Notably, security forces are on a high alert across Kashmir due to the death anniversaries of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru on Monday.
