Conversation of youths on phones can transform mood in Valley: Malik

Governor Satya Pal Malik’s observations over the opening of mobile services in Kashmir after a long gap of more than two months on Monday have a special significance for the youth of the Valley, who are the biggest stakeholders in the future of Kashmir.

Malik had made these observations while speaking at a police function in Kathua, where he had also applauded the role that the state police had played in fighting terrorism as a frontline force.

While giving a context to the blockage of the phones coinciding with the abrogation of the Article 370 and the subsequent anticipation of eruption of violence, Malik said, among other things, that the young boys and girls would be able to talk to each other. “There would be no problem as such in their communication,” he said. They figured as the builders of Kashmir’s better future.

“In the current context, it meant that the youth could talk to one another, exchange their views and express their feelings without any difficulty coming in their way. The youth form more than 42 per cent of the demography in Kashmir. They are the real hope of Kashmir and also the biggest stakeholders,” he said.

“Their conversation on phones could help in transforming the mood in the Valley which has had its difficult times in the recent weeks. They are the ones who can transform Kashmir in a positive fashion and built its future, accordingly,” he said.

“The overall mood after the opening of the mobile services in the Valley has been positive, and as it was highlighted that it would provide means of communication to traders, businessmen and tourists visiting the Valley. But most important audience to be addressed is that of the youth in the Valley, as they hold the key to the situation,” he said.

“They can attend their schools, colleges, universities and communicate with the rest of the world to explore opportunities, and also to acquaint the world of the opportunities that exist in Kashmir to brighten the future prospects of the youth in the Valley. This was to wean them away from the evil sources of radicalisation promoting terrorism,” he said.
