CUJ sets up panel to probe ‘subversive’ activities on campus

The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) has constituted a high-level panel to look into alleged “anti-national activities” being perpetrated by some faculty members and students to foment trouble on its main campus at Raya Suchani, Bagla area in Samba district.

The inquiry committee will also probe the involvement of faculty members who were instigating students for carrying out “anti-national activities” to avoid any situation that had erupted in past at the JNU, New Delhi, and University of Hyderabad.

“A four-member committee, headed by a senior professor, has been formed to probe whether some faculty members and students, who have been identified, are involved in anti-national and subversive activities on the campus. The panel has been asked to complete its inquiry in time-bound manner and submit its recommendations to disciplinary committee for further action,” said a CUJ official, requesting anonymity.

The official said the panel would verify the video clips made by students and some faculty members where it was clearly seen that some students were inciting others for fomenting trouble on the campus.

“The inquiry panel, starting its probe from February 18, will have to substantiate the allegations of indiscipline and anti-national activities on the campus through video clips and holding interactions with different stakeholders. It will look into all aspects whether it is part of a large conspiracy to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the campus,” the officer said, adding, “After they submit the recommendations, the disciplinary committee will suggest the punitive action against those who are involved in any subversive activity”.

The official, however, made it clear that nobody would be spared for creating trouble on the campus. Some students on February 5 created trouble on the campus by holding girls students hostage in the name of protest against hike in transport fare.
