The Kashmir valley is likely to witness a fresh spell of snow and rainfall during the next three days as two cyclonic storms are approaching the region, the weather department said on Monday.

The upcoming spell of precipitation will be the tenth major spell of snow and rain during this winter in the Valley.

In its forecast bulletin, the Indian meteorological department (IMD) said widespread precipitation is likely in the Valley during the next three days.

The department said two western disturbance storms are approaching the region “in quick succession”. They will affect Kashmir during the next three days, it said.

In association with the second storm, there would be high moisture incursion from Arabian Sea over the Western Himalayan region on Wednesday and Thursday which will lead to “fairly widespread to widespread rain and snow” in the state here.

The department said there is a possibility of heavy rain and snow at isolated places in the state.

In the Jammu division, the department said, there is a possibility of thunderstorm with hailstorm, lightning and gusty wind at isolated places.

The spell is also likely to impact the vehicular traffic along the Srinagar-Jammu highway, which had faced multiple blockades due to bad weather in past weeks.
